An Introduction about Samurthi project

There were many welfare programs carried out after the independence of 1948 to reduce poverty in Sri Lanka. Establishment of the Samurdhi Commissioner General and the Samurdhi Authority of the Government, in forming the Samurdhi movement as the country's poverty alleviation program in 1994,In addition to delivering relief, it took the necessary action to implement massive development projects as well. Many programs with welfare aims behind the independence of 1948 to reduce poverty in Sri Lanka. The Samurdhi program is not a program to distribute poverty relief but is a massive economic and social development program. It is widely known that the Samurdhi project is the most successful and vastly successful project, such as improving baseline facilities in rural areas Organizing poor people through social reinforcement, involving them in social development work, implementation of mass social development programs, social abuse, drugs and bad habits .

The Samurdhi program started in 1996 is a program developed after special examination of activities carried out in every period of time to reduce poverty and poverty in Sri Lanka. The Samurdhi project with the objective of "poor low prosperous Sri Lanka" was introduced in the Jaffna district in 1997. This was followed by the Samurdhi activists in Velanai Divisional Secretariat Division in 1998 and the Samurdhi Managers in 2000 and the program was expanded. In 2003, Velanai and Punguduthivu Samurdhi Bank Societies were founded with 15 Grama Seva Divisions in 30 Grama Seva Divisions in Velanai Divisional Secretariat Division.

i . Samurdhi relief 

This relief provided to the sections of the poverty line has been brought into force in the Jaffna District since 2005. Relief from multi-purpose cooperative societies and cash stamps in Samurdhi banking societies and compulsory savings and social security home lotteries is now a cash stamp and compulsory savings home lottery social security. 30% of the Divisional Secretariat Division is currently receiving Samurdhi relief.
